In the 1920’s and 1930’s, coffee exports alone totaled 90% of all of the country’s exports. By the 1990’s, 78% of coffee farms and 40% of the total area were in the hands of small coffee producers. Coffees from El Salvador typically create a bigger body, with tropical fruits, syrupy mouthfeel alongside the citrus brightness and characteristic yellow grapefruit aftertaste. 95% of the coffee produced in El Salvador is shade grown.
